Serving Our Community
We exist to serve people in our community and offer a number of programs including:
- Families participate in Connecting Through Adventures, which so far has included a field trip to the Santa Cruz museum, a children’s photography exhibit, and more events will be announced.
- We offer a meal and fellowship through our Mountain Hangout once a month.
- Film buffs gather on the 4th Friday to watch and discuss a documentary and enjoy lunch together.
- We are working with a number of organizations, including the Loma Prieta Community Foundation, Firesafe Councils, and many members of the public to improve fire safety, which is particularly important where we live.
Our regular weekly event is the Sunday Worship Service at 10:30 AM in the Skyland Church sanctuary. After the service we go next door to Whitaker Hall for either a coffee hour fellowship or a pot luck lunch (see below for a schedule).
During an Advent Sunday worship service, we perform a Christmas Pageant, played by all-volunteer-actors (especially children). Then on Christmas Eve, and we have a Christmas Eve Sing-Along Service at 8 pm, which is early enough that the whole family can attend. We do not have a Christmas Day service unless it happens to be on a Sunday.
On Thursday evening before Easter, we hold a simple soup supper at 6:30 pm followed by the Service of Tenebrae at 7:30 pm. In 2019 we joined Mountain Bible Church and Christ Child Church for a wonderful Easter Sunrise Service, follows by our Easter Family Service at 10:30 AM and an Easter Egg Hunt outside and Easter Tea in Whitaker Hall.
Other Annual Events
Besides our annual Christmas and Easter events, our biggest event of the year is the Harvest Festival, usually held on a Saturday in September.
Other events include a Spaghetti Dinner in late January or early February and an Independence Day Service & Barbeque on a Sunday around July 4th,
Coffee Hour & Pot Luck Lunch
On the third Sunday of every month, we have a pot luck lunch in Whitaker Hall after the regular church service. On other Sundays, we have a coffee hour with snacks and refreshments. Volunteer church members are responsible for setting up the coffee hour and potluck, as well as serving and cleaning up afterwards.
