The meeting was called to order at 12:20. Stephen opened with a prayer.

New Business:

1. Marcia and Jennifer will co-chair Deacons again next year.

2. We looked at the Deacon budget for 08-09. Marcia and Jennifer will meet with Gerry to clarify questions that came up in discussion and present a proposed budget for deacons at the Feb. meeting.

3. We considered a request from T'Shala that she get a scholarship to attend the UCC Women's Retreat in January. We agreed to grant her $200 from the pastor's discretionary fund.

4. Seminary student - It was MSP to advertise for the position of a seminary student for the school year 2009-2010.

5. Sermon message for Sunday, Jan. 18. will celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Stephen proposed extending that celebration with a gathering of interested members to watch the inauguration the following Tuesday, in Whitaker Hall. It was MSP to support this idea. Watch for details in the days ahead.

6. It was noted that the altar candles are getting difficult to light. Jennifer and Julie will check on this.

7. Julie offered to be the contact person on the deacons to help support the Leary family.

8. We thanked Larry for his service as a deacon. He will be leaving the deacons to become a trustee.
