Services in Lent

Lent is a season of self-reflection. During these 40 days we remember Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness before he enters his public ministry. We all find ourselves in “wilderness” times now and then, times when life feels harder or less clear, times when it feels harder to figure out our direction or our purpose.  In this season, let’s remember that wilderness times are holy too, that Jesus needed wilderness times during his life and we need them too.  Sometimes not being certain about where we are going opens our hearts to new direction and new purpose.

Join us in this season of Lent as we journey through the wilderness letting go of needing to know everything right now, letting go of the impulse to be perfect, and opening up our hearts and minds to what it means to follow Jesus, to be God’s people, and to love God’s creation.

One tool that may guide and deepen your reflection during Lent is journaling.  Perhaps you have been journaling for many years and are very comfortable with it.  Perhaps you never have and don’t know where to begin.  Either is a wonderful place to start.  At this link you will find daily online journal pages for the season of Lent.  Each day begins with a simple prompt.  When you click on the prompt, you will go to a page where you can read others’ responses to the prompt and, if you wish, contribute your own anonymously.  Here is how to get there:

  1. Begin by clicking or tapping here:
  2. Click or tap on the prompt you would like to read more about or respond to.
  3. Click on the orange + sign on the bottom or the right of the screen to add a note of your own.

If you would like to download a printable journal with all of the online prompts and more, there is a link at the top of the page you began on.  You will be asked to provide your name and your email address and then you will be able to download a PDF or Word version of the journal.
